The City of Coppell has announced that Celebrate Coppell Independence Day events, Party in the Park music and fireworks show, and Parade Down Parkway will not take place in 2020. The Celebrate Coppell 5K and Fun Run, normally held in conjunction with Coppell’s Independence Day events, has been moved to October 24, 2020.
“We look forward to seeing the community and celebrating our independence at Celebrate Coppell each year,” said Parks and Recreation Director Brad Reid. “While we are disappointed that our traditional events will not be possible this year, we have found a fun way that we can celebrate safely as a community. This was a hard call to make, but we must always put the health and safety of the community first.”
The impact of COVID-19 is one that has been felt deeply across the world. In this time where uniting together is more important than ever, but keeping our distance is crucial, celebrations and gatherings must look different. Celebrate Coppell has always been a celebration of people, events, and traditions; encouraging the citizens of Coppell to celebrate our nation’s independence. With the knowledge that families across Coppell are still eager to celebrate the holiday, city staff has reimagined the traditional celebration and created a way for residents to safely celebrate as a community. The City is introducing Celebrate Coppell: Red, White & Views! to encourage residents and business owners to decorate their home, yard or business windows.
Community members interested in decorating their yard or place of business must sign-up online at celebratecoppell.com. Registration is currently open and runs through 12 p.m. on June 19. Participants will be added to an online map of patriotic spaces to be released to the public on Saturday, June 20. The community is encouraged to walk around their neighborhoods or drive around town to view the patriotic displays from June 21 through July 5.
Photos of decorated spaces will be posted on Coppell Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page. Followers will be asked to vote for their favorite in the Citizen’s Choice contest. Other awards will be given for the Most Patriotic and Most Creative spaces.
