FY17-18 Budget Approved

A Note from Coppell Mayor Karen Hunt

September 19, 2017

As elected City officials, the most important tasks the Mayor and City Council perform are planning and adopting the annual budget. It's not only a policy and financial statement, but also a representation of the commitment we have to the residents, businesses and community partners your local government serves on a daily basis. I am so proud to be part of such a rewarding mission and group of dedicated public servants!

In September, your City Council approved the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 (FY17-18) budget and kept the property tax rate steady at $0.5795 per $100 valuation, maintaining the lowest tax rate for residents since 1990 when the tax rate was $0.56.

The financial plan for the upcoming year reflects the high level of service Coppellians enjoy today, and the budget lays out a roadmap for what the City will accomplish in the upcoming fiscal year. From infrastructure improvements to quality of life projects, each year your City Council and Staff work to make Coppell a Community of Choice today and for future generations.

This fiscal year's budget is unique in that we're shifting our focus from a growth and development model to a maintenance and redevelopment model. As our infrastructure ages, it's important for us to proactively maintain our assets to sustain and improve upon the high standard of living in Coppell. Infrastructure maintenance, including facilities and technology, will be a budget priority moving forward.

Key projects for the year include:

  • Cardiac monitor replacement in ambulance fleet
  • Technology infrastructure replacement for traffic functions
  • Parkway Blvd reconstruction
  • Storm sewer analysis
  • Water quality monitoring equipment
  • Various capital fleet replacements
  • ADA improvements throughout the city

Through this budget, the City maintains its commitment to provide high-level services to our citizens with the intent to exceed your expectations.
