Summer Reading Challenge

It's easy to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge! Keep track of everything online! Log each day that you read. When you reach 10 days, you'll get a coupon for the Friends of the Library Book Sale. At 20 days, you'll get a FREE book (while supplies last) and an entry into our Grand Prize Drawing! At 30 days, you'll get a FREE book (while supplies last) and an entry into the Prize Drawing! There will be Grand Prize winners for Preschool kids, elementary kids, teens, and adults.

Donation Drive

June 1 – July 31  |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

When we think of donation drives, we first think of canned goods during the holiday months, but hygiene items are in high demand all year long. This summer, the library will be collecting hygiene items like shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, and laundry detergent for Metrocrest Services. A full list of requested items is available at the front desk. All donations will go to Metrocrest Services in Farmers Branch. To find out more about Metrocrest and the aid they give to our community, please visit metrocrestservices.org.

Firefighter 101

July 1  |   9 – 10:30 am   |   Life Safety Park

Does your child constantly tell you that he/she wants to be a firefighter when they grow up? Then this class is the perfect way to introduce them to what it takes to be a firefighter. Students will learn how to be ambassadors of fire safety by learning about the tools of prevention - smoke alarms, home escape plans, and fire extinguishers. That knowledge will then be put to the test in our Safety House. Once they've successfully mastered their fire safety skills, students will head to our Safety Town Fire Station to visit with a firefighter and get hands on with firefighting equipment.

The class is free for children in 2nd and 3rd grade only.


Splish Splash Bash

July 1  |   2 – 3:30 pm   |   Life Safety Park

Students in this class will learn about how to be safe in the summer sun and when finding relief in the water. Topics will include general water and pool safety practices, open water safety (life jackets), and heat safety. To cap off the class with some extra fun, students will then be treated to a water balloon fight out on Safety Town!

The class is free for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade only.

KidsNotes

Join the Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra for a program filled with storytime, performances by a professional musician, interactive games, and an instrument petting zoo! Early exposure to music and the arts is crucial to developing the creative spark in youth. Intended for children preschool to 1st grade.


Wild Day: Wonderful World of Water

July 3 |   2 – 3:30 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center

What is the water cycle? How does a water molecule change through each phase of that cycle? Pretend to be a water molecule and journey through each stop a water molecule makes while creating a bracelet to record your journey. Learn about water conservation, water testing, and our very own Cottonwood Creek. Wild Wednesdays are geared toward families and youth ages 3-14. These free "come and go" events feature hands-on learning/activity stations.

Parade Down Parkway

July 4  |   9 am   |   Samuel Blvd – Parkway Blvd – Town Center

The City's annual Celebrate Coppell: Parade Down Parkway will begin at 9 am on Thursday, July 4. Wear your red, white, and blue and find a spot along the parade route to watch as all the floats pass by! The parade route begins on Samuel Blvd., proceeds west on Parkway Blvd., and ends at Town Center. Intersections along the parade route will be closed prior to the parade and remain closed until all entries have passed.


Pickleball Open Play

Come play a game of pickleball! All participants are required to sign a waiver before play each time. No sign-up is required. Spectators are welcome as there may be a chance you can jump in if someone gets tired. For seniors ages 50+.

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. CPR Class

July 11  |   6 – 9 pm   |   Life Safety Park, 820 S. Coppell Rd

CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief, and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. Please register online at LifeSafetyPark.org.


Splish Splash Storytime

A special storytime at the pool! The CORE and the Cozby Library are partnering again this summer to offer Splish Splash Storytime, in conjunction with Tot Swim. Meet at the pool for stories, songs, splashing, and fun! Storytime is free and will take place in the outdoor pool. Those who wish to stay and swim can do so until 10:45 am. If you would like to stay and swim after 10:45 am, you will need to have a CORE membership, punch pass, or pay the regular day pass rate. For parents and children up to age 8. The CORE is located at 234 E. Parkway Blvd.

Theatre Coppell – Baby

One young couple is having a baby and ponders whether to get married. A second slightly older couple is trying, but can't have a baby. The final couple, still older, is having a "surprise" baby. Great music and an interesting intertwined plot make this musical a rare gem, continuing Theatre Coppell's string of little-known shows and local community theatre premiers.

Coppell Farmers Market:  Customer Appreciation Day and Cooking Demonstrations

On Saturday, July 13, the Coppell Farmers Market will celebrate our customers! In appreciation of our shoppers, we're giving away organic cotton produce bags (limited supply) and hosting a full day of cooking demonstrations. Mad Science Show

Join Mad Science for this spectacular science-themed show designed to amaze and entertain young audiences of any size. Be prepared to have fun and learn about science. Read to a Teen

Did you know that teenagers can be great listeners? Come join us at Read to a Teen, where children ages K-5 working on reading independently can buddy up with a teen and read aloud to them. The teens will be happy to help readers by sounding out or explaining words. Children can bring their own books or use ours! We'll have a variety of Beginning Readers, Picture Books, and chapter books available at the event and in the library.

Master Naturalists will encourage hikers to sharpen their senses to explore the thrilling sights, smells, and sounds of night at the Coppell Nature Park. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Create a Zine

Artists from the Denton-based creative collective, Spiderweb Salon, will lead a workshop about zine culture and zines. Zine is short for magazine. During the workshop, Spiderfriends will guide teens through making a zine and help them create their own from start to finish. Attendees will leave with 15 copies of their original zine and a copy of Spiderweb Salon's zine "How to Make a Zine."

Streamside Scientist

July 31 |   10 am – Noon   |   Biodiversity Education Center

This is a new opportunity for young science enthusiasts to develop their research skills at Cottonwood Creek. Using the scientific method in an outdoor laboratory, participants will assess the health of a local aquatic ecosystem. Participants are asked to wear appropriate outdoor clothing, including close-toed shoes that can get wet, and bring a water bottle. Class size is limited. Preregistration is required at coppellactivities.com. The cost is $10 per participant. For ages 9-12.
