Summer Reading Challenge

Join the Cozby Library and Community Commons in our Summer Reading Challenge! From June 1 through July 31, we encourage you to Imagine Your Story through reading, crafts, experiments, performers, programs, and more!

Starting June 1, you can pick up a Summer Reading Bag from the library through curbside pickup. There's a bag for kids, teens, and adults! 

If you prefer to not come to the library, you will be able to print some of the materials and access the performers by going to coppelltx.gov/library/reading-challenges.

Bookmark Contest

June 1 – July 31  |   Cozby Library and Community Commons

Calling all aspiring artists and designers ages 5 - Adult! The Cozby Library and Community Commons is seeking creative bookmark designs for this year's Summer Reading Challenge! Entries must be received by July 31. The winning bookmarks will be professionally printed and distributed at the library. Submission form is available online.

If you are unable to print the submission form, you may request one from staff when you pickup books at the curbside service. To sign-up for curbside service visit bit.ly/cozbycurbside.

Scan and email the completed form to cozbyprograms@coppelltx.gov. You may also place the form in an envelope and return it through the drive-thru bookdrop. Please email CozbyPrograms@coppelltx.gov with any questions.

Contest may be changed or canceled due to the library being closed and recommendations from the CDC and the City of Coppell.


Virtual Performer: James Wand Magic Show

In a faraway world, two brave villagers go on a daring journey to release the dragons and save the entire kingdom from the evil ice sorceress. See if our two heroes can stop the evil ice sorceress before all hope is lost!

Join us on an action-packed adventure as we soar high into the air and touch the clouds on the back of a dragon! This interactive story features amazing special effects that will bring this fantasy to life! Then journey behind the scenes of the special effects as we explore the science of matter.


Beep, Beep: Jeeps!

This course is designed to teach K-1st graders about basic motor vehicle and pedestrian safety topics. Students will be given time to drive jeeps and practice safe pedestrian skills around the outdoor Safety Town. Visit Life Safety Park's registration page to sign up.

Introduction to Zoom Class

Zoom has become one of the most commonly used video conferencing software in the past few months. Many people have never used it before and we'd like to help you get started. Through this online class, we will help you create an account, show you how to attend meetings, host meetings, and be aware of any possible security issues. This class is for beginners so don't let technology issues stop you from attending! This class will be held online, but staff will be available via email and phone to help you get set up if needed.

Basic Jr. Fire Academy

This course is designed to teach 2nd-3rd graders about intermediate fire safety and fire operations. They'll get to be a junior firefighter for a day by going through our LSP Fire Academy! Visit Life Safety Park's registration page to sign up.


Virtual Hang Teen

We'll have different activities each week. Participants will be able to interact with the host and other participants through video and audio. For teens in grades 6 - 12. Registration is required.

Virtual Coppell Writers Group

Using a platform of tips, tricks, and inspiration from a number of writing books we plan to offer small pieces of advice, optional writing prompts and exercises, timed writing opportunities, and chances to share writing samples with others. Facilitated by Amanda Kennedy and Tara Henderson.

Restock your pantry with fresh produce and support local at the Coppell Farmers Market every Saturday. The City of Coppell considers the CFM a viable grocery option during the current shelter in place orders issued by both Dallas County and the City of Coppell, and the CFM plans to continue to offer grocery services during the current COVID-19 public health emergency. Strict safety precautions will be implemented at the CFM during this time. Please read about these precautionsbefore attending to be prepared. The market is located at 768 W. Splish Splash Bash: Water & Heat Safety

This course is designed to teach K-5th graders about water & heat safety. Classroom topics will include pool safety practices, open water safety, and heat safety. CPR-AED

CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief, and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. Visit Life Safety Park's registration page to sign up.


Virtual Credit Scores and Reports

Knowing your credit score and understanding how to read a credit report is important in order to develop financial health and avoid fraud. In this virtual workshop, participants will learn what a credit score is, its importance, and how to read a credit report. They will also learn the tools to maintain a healthy credit score and repair bad credit.

Crash Course: Basic First Aid

This course is designed to teach 6th-9th graders about basic first aid ailments and treatments, with hands-on exercises. After the classroom lesson, students will be given scenarios to test their learned knowledge around Safety Town! A great intro course for boy/girl scouts and babysitters. Summer Drive-In Movies:  E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial

June 20  |  8:30 pm  |  Coppell Arts Center Parking Lot

Reinventing the classic moviegoing experience, the Coppell Arts Center and Coppell Parks and Recreation are excited to announce the launch of a Summer Movie Drive-In Series for the community. The Arts Center is turning its newly constructed parking lot on the west side of the Center into a drive-in theater for a safe, comfortable entertainment experience the whole family will enjoy.

The Drive-In features will range from classic movie titles such as Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark to modern family favorites like Disney's Coco. Tickets are available online-only for $10 per vehicle. 

Pre-packaged popcorn and water are available for purchase online and on-site at the Drive-In to limit contact and maintain social distancing.

In support of the City of Coppell's #BeVocalShopLocal campaign, the community is encouraged to pick up To-Go meals from their favorite Coppell restaurants to enjoy at the Drive-In while viewing the movie. Look out for Drive-In meals and deals for your family from Coppell restaurants on movie nights.

Virtual Lit Fix: Frankenstein

Do you feel like you are missing out whenever someone mentions classic literature? Do you have trouble connecting to or understanding the material? Or maybe you love classic literature and want to talk more about it? Then this program is for you! We will begin with an overview of the major themes, author biography, and historical background for the text. Then we will discuss recent adaptations and why the featured work is still relevant to our modern world- or maybe it isn't? You don't need to have read the text to participate, just come with a curious mind.
