March Event Guide

**UPDATE: Based on the recommendation of the Dallas County Health and Human Services Department, Coppell Mayor Karen Hunt declared a local state of disaster for a public health emergency for Coppell effective at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020. This state of disaster will continue for seven days, through 11 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020. Events listed below during this time frame are subject to change/cancelation.

Coppell Youth Football Association – Spring 7 on 7 Registration

March 1 - 27

The Coppell Youth Football Association is a competitive youth football program focusing on life lessons while maximizing the talent level of our kids, playing to their potential, preparing to play Coppell Cowboy football at the middle and high school level, and utilizing well-trained volunteer coaches. The 7on7 teams shall consist of 10-15 players ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade. The season begins April 5 and runs throughout the month with games scheduled on Sunday afternoons. CozbyCon Art Contest

Submit your comic book/anime drawing to win prizes and be featured in the library! Winners will be announced at CozbyCon on April 18. Submission forms will be available online and at the front desk starting March 1. All ages can participate. Coppell Women's Club Meeting

Dr. Ron Newton, Author, will be discussing his writings. Dr. Newton grew up in a small Colorado town in a family of 19. His books tell the story of growing up in a large family during the Depression and WWII. The last seven born into the family were all boys, so "yes" they were the basketball team that went to Denver for the state championship and WON.

Coppell Writers Group

Join our new writers group! Get support, encouragement, and constructive criticism from other local writers. Learn new tips and gain some inspiration by working on optional writing exercises, timed writing opportunities, and chances to share writing samples with others. Writers of all levels are welcome. Sunset Socials: Party Machine Band

Grab your lawn chairs and picnic blankets and head to Old Town for the newest event series in Coppell: Sunset Socials! Sunset Socials will introduce attendees to a mix of evening entertainment options, including outdoor concerts, movies, and more.
Stop by Old Town Coppell on Friday, March 6 to kick off our 2020 event season with live music performed by Party Machine Band (an Emerald City band), playing a mix of favorite musical hits.
Bring your blankets or chairs to enjoy the show. Food and drink will be available for purchase from food trucks including F&F Express Prime from Scratch, and The Fruit Bowl, as well as ice cold treats for dessert. Complimentary popcorn will be provided courtesy of Coppell Parks and Recreation. 


Fly Fishing Class 

March 7 |   9 am – 2 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center 

Learn to cast, tie basic fishing knots and flies, and their uses. Additionally, learn about safety, ethics, regulations, aquatic ecosystems, fishing and equipment, and earn a TPWD Basic Fly Fishing Certificate! Presented by Texas Parks and Wildlife and Dallas Fly Fishers. All equipment and materials provided. Space is limited. Click here to register in advance.

Girl Power: Movie Matinee

Celebrate Will Eisner Week and International Women's Day at this super program! During this program we'll discuss the importance of strong, female role models in fiction and real life, craft Wonder Woman-inspired bracelets, and enjoy a screening of Wonder Woman (2017). Rated PG-13. This event is open to adults, teens, and children K-5. K-5 attendees are expected to have a parent present with them throughout the program.

This course is designed to teach K-1st graders about basic motor vehicle and pedestrian safety topics. Students will be given time to drive jeeps and practice safe pedestrian skills around the outdoor Safety Town. Free to attend. Registration required at lifesafetypark.org.


CSC – Listen & Learn – The Apps, Sites & Devices Changing the Way we Age

Technology is transforming the way we age, from living longer to living BETTER. Explore an array of apps, sites, and devices that make it easier to work, stay healthy, live fully, and remain connected. Advance registration required.


Basic Jr. Fire Academy

This course is designed to teach 2nd-3rd graders about intermediate fire safety and fire operations. They'll get to be a junior firefighter for a day by going through our LSP Fire Academy! Free to attend. Registration required at lifesafetypark.org.


Teen Trivia Takedown

Want to pit your wits against your friends or foes? Teens will form groups of 4-5 and compete in multiple rounds of trivia from general knowledge to pop culture to various fandoms! Teens can come with a group or form one at the event. Winners will receive prizes and bragging rights! For teens in grades 6 - 12.

Service Crafting @ Animal Services

Join us at Coppell Animal Services for a tour of the facility. Attendees will be able to interact with dogs and cats under Animal Services supervision. Then we will make bandanas for animals to wear to adoption events. Sign-up is required. Visit CozbyLibrary.LibraryMarket.com to register. Animal Services is located at 821 S Coppell Rd. For teens in grades 6 - 12.


First Aid Frenzy

March 10  |   1 – 3 pm   |   Life Safety Park

This course is designed to teach 6th-9th graders about basic first aid ailments and treatments, with hands-on exercises. After the classroom lesson, students will be given scenarios to test their learned knowledge around Safety Town! A great intro course for boy/girl scouts and babysitters. Free to attend. Twilight Guided Hike 

March 10 |   5  7 pm   |   Biodiversity Education Center 

Explore Coppell Nature Park with an experienced Master Naturalist through a twilight guided hike. Experience the fascinating sights, smells, and sounds of evening activity at the park. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Hikers are asked to dress appropriately, wear close-toed shoes and bring a water bottle. No registration required. Space is limited.  


Travel Club

Do you want to learn how to best plan your own trips or just want to hear about your neighbors' trips? Come learn about all these things and more! This month we will be discussing trips to Spain. Facilitated by Pam Lopez, Travel Consultant.


Firefighter Show-and-Tell

This course is designed to teach Pre-K children about basic fire safety topics, such as when to Stop, Drop, and Roll, and appropriate reasons to call 9-1-1. Students will then visit with a firefighter inside our fire station to learn about his/her role as a community helper. Free to attend. Registration required at lifesafetypark.org.


CSC – Spring Wreath

Welcome spring to your doorstep with a fun wreath! Craft a spring wreath that is sure to freshen up any door and help usher in a new season of fresh beginnings. Cost is $5. Advance registration required.


Advanced Jr. Fire Academy

Teen Nite: Intro to Drawing

Join us for a special spring break Teen Nite with artist Halo Toons. Halo will lead an introduction to drawing workshop and help attendees get started or polish their CozbyCon art entries. Halo Toons is an artist, author, and co-creator of Shonuff! Studio, an indie comic company based in Fort Worth. Shonuff! Studios has a history of cultivating artists, which is showcased through their creation of Sketch Dojo, a bi-monthly artist workshop. Shonuff! Studio publishing credits include the Zombie Kitty Coloring Book, Aerobicide The Extreme Ninja Workout, El Peso Hero, and more. For teens in grades 6 - 12.


2020 Conference USA Basketball Championships

March 11 - 14  |   Ford Center, Frisco

For the third year in a row, the excitement of Division I college basketball is returning to Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas, headquarters of the Dallas Cowboys. The Conference USA Men's and Women's Basketball Championships will take place March 11-14, featuring 22 games over four days under one roof with C-USA titles and NCAA automatic bids on the line. Also available is the InTouch Credent Union Fan Fest on the plaza in front of Ford Center. So, come early and enjoy the free and family friendly Fan Fest.

This course is designed to teach 4th-6th graders about severe weather awareness and emergency preparedness. After the classroom lesson, students will get to participate in a scavenger hunt around Safety Town during a mock emergency situation. Free to attend. Registration required at lifesafetypark.org.


Service Crafting @ Senior Center

March 12  |   1 – 3 pm   |   Coppell Senior and Community Center at Grapevine Springs

Learn about the service crafting efforts of the Knit Wits and Material Girls groups that operate out of the Coppell Senior and Community Center. Teens will learn how to crochet baby washcloths or loom knit baby hats. Finished products will be donated to local organizations. Sign-up is required. Home Sweet Home Wild Day

Animals come in all shapes and sizes with homes equally as varied. Discover different animal homes that can be found in Coppell Nature Park through hands-on experiences and discussion. Wild Days are geared toward families and youth ages 3-14. These free "come and go" events feature hands-on learning/activity stations.   


CPR-AED

March 12  |   6 – 9 pm   |   Life Safety Park

CPR AED is an instructor-led course that teaches critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency situation until emergency medical services arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid, choking relief, and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. Appropriate for older teens and adults. Free to attend. Registration required at lifesafetypark.org.

Coppell Farmers Market

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement. FCNP – Benefits of Bees

Peer into the world of bees! If bees didn't exist in our world today, it would look like a very different place – and our lives wouldn't be nearly the same either. These industrious insects have been around for roughly 125 million years and although bee numbers are sadly declining, the remaining survivors continue to act as invaluable resources to our planet in numerous ways. Bee hobbyist Bruce Crozier will be talking about this fascinating insect. Admission is free.


Seize the Sneeze with Ayurveda

Millions of people suffer from allergies during springtime. Taking anti-allergy medicines does not solve the problem completely. Coppell Farmers Market

The Coppell Farmers Market is the best unique, small market in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Vendors feature grass-fed meats and poultry, organic eggs, artisan breads, honey, and other specialty products. Come out to the Farmers Market to find local healthy food, develop a relationship with those providing your food, meet up with friends and neighbors, and be a part of the local movement.
