The Coppell Arts Council is partnering with the Coppell Arts Center for this year's North Texas Giving Day event to raise money for an outdoor performance stage upgrade. Currently under construction with the anticipation of opening next May, the Coppell Arts Center will be the newest entertainment and cultural venue in North Texas with two performance stages, a banquet hall, art gallery, and studio classroom. The original project scope includes an outdoor community plaza with the option to add-on a performance area with additional fundraising.
"We appreciate that the City is building this new home for us and we want to contribute to make it the best venue possible," said board member Ed Guignon. "And, that means an outdoor stage where residents can gather for concerts, weddings, and art markets."
Donations received by the Coppell Arts Council on Thursday, September 19 as part of the 11th annual North Texas Giving Day event will go towards the construction cost and a grand opening concert with a one-of-a-kind lineup. Potential entertainment acts include a karaoke set by the Coppell city council, a zombie orchestra, a standup routine by Dallas Comedy House, a performance from Deep Ellum's The Lizard Man, and a concert from former American Idol contestants. The setlist for the grand opening will be selected live on social media by the public, with one new act added each time a fundraising benchmark is reached.
"We were humbled and excited to have the Coppell Arts Council approach us about a joint-effort campaign to get the outdoor stage built," said Alex Hargis, managing director for the Coppell Arts Center. "I'm cracking up at this grand opening lineup. I really hope the community comes out and gives generously on September 19 so I can see some of these acts go on stage."
