Several area roadways are undergoing or are slated to receive improvements including additional lanes in the near future.
The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) announced it is in the planning phase of a widening project along the Sam Rayburn Tollway. The entire 26-mile tollway will gain a fourth lane in both directions to keep up with the continued population growth in North Texas and improve traffic flow. Much like the President George Bush Turnpike widening project, the new lanes will be built in median space, which is said to cut down on traffic interference during construction. Work is expected to begin in mid-2018, with completion at the end of 2020.
The NTTA will host two come-and-go community open houses to share details of the project. Community members can stop by any time during either open house to view project maps and speak with experts.

The President George Bush Turnpike widening project, which will add third and fourth lanes in both directions in various areas, is continuing as planned in phases. The NTTA reports construction eastbound from the Dallas North Tollway to U.S. 75 and westbound from Dallas North Tollway to Renner Road is substantially complete. The sections from I-35E to the Dallas North Tollway and U.S. 75 to SH 78 are in the design phase with construction expected to begin in May or June of this year and completion at the end of 2019. The section from I-35E to north of Belt Line Road in Irving and the section from I-20 to I-30 in Grand Prairie are both in the planning phase.
Construction is currently underway on the Dallas North Tollway, which will also gain a fourth lane in both directions from President George Bush Turnpike to the Sam Rayburn Tollway along with several other improvements including pavement surface overlay and restriping in other areas.
