The City of Coppell is pleased to welcome a new player to its vibrant business community.
Peak Nano Optics, LLC, a nanotechnology company, will soon call 220 North Freeport Parkway in Coppell home. The more than 211,000 square feet of space will serve as the company's corporate headquarters, bringing up to 125 new full-time jobs. It will also house its main manufacturing facility, which will utilize robotics to produce cutting-edge, lightweight, high performance nanolayer gradient refractive index (GRIN) lenses for use in military and commercial applications.
"We're very excited about Peak Nano's decision to headquarter in Coppell," said Mindi Hurley, City of Coppell Director of Community Development. "This presents an exciting development opportunity for the City, and Peak Nano will bring in not only cutting-edge technology, but also numerous high-quality job opportunities. Peak Nano is a great fit for the City, and we're honored that they have chosen Coppell as the home of future successes."
Nanotechnology encompasses science, engineering, and technology at the nanoscale, which is about 1 to 100 nanometers. A nanometer is one-billionth of a meter. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 100,000 nanometers thick. By manipulating material at the atomic and molecular level, Nanoscale matter can behave differently than the same bulk material.
Poised to become one of the leading commercialization engines for nanotechnology in current and emerging markets, Peak Nano is involved with a variety of nanotechnology innovations that enable, for example, thinner and lighter optics that are 80 percent lighter and 10 times thinner than comparable glass, wearable sensors and health monitors, safer food through packaging and monitoring, and strong, lightweight materials for aerospace applications.
The expanding, Texas-born company chose Coppell as its home base because of the City's focus on education, growing technology community and strong business culture.
"Coppell is a wonderful community," said Jim Welsh, Peak Nano Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "My family relocated here in 2012, and we have loved every moment of our time here. The sense of growth and energy is palpable here, and we are thrilled to expand our team to this city."
