Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Ed Guignon moved to Coppell in 1985 when the city had about 7,000 residents and its first grocery store, Minyards, was about to open. While not a native, he considers himself Texas based as he has lived in the Dallas area for about 36 years. His kids grew up here and graduated from New Tech High.
After retiring from sales and marketing at IBM, Ed made the decision to volunteer for the City of Coppell because he had benefited so much from all of the wonderful facilities this City has to offer.
"I got to a point in my life where I wanted to give back to the community that my family had benefited from for so many years," he said.
His first organized volunteer activity was as a member of the Parks and Recreation Board of Coppell, seven years ago. Ed is currently involved in a number of local volunteer activities, such as the Vice Chair of the Coppell Parks and Recreation Board and Co-Chair of Living Well in Coppell. He also stands as a member of the Coppell Arts Council, which recently brought an outdoor sculpture exhibit to Old Town. Previously, has was the Co-Chair of the Kid Country Community Playground Project, a member of the Coppell CRDC Board, and a member of the Coppell Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan Committee.
When he isn't volunteering, Ed enjoys spending time outdoors water skiing, running, hiking, camping, backpacking and mountain climbing. Ed has climbed 47 of the 55 peaks in Colorado that are over 14,000 feet high! His favorite vacation spot was an outdoor adventure trip to New Zealand, and hopes to do a similar trip to Australia with his family to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef. Ed also has hopes of visiting Patagonia at the southern tip of South America, and getting to Iceland in both the summer and winter, so he can experience the outdoor adventure aspect and see the Northern Lights.
Thank you, Ed, for your years of dedication to the City of Coppell!
