1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program designed to help parents prepare their children for school. Reading to your child improves vocabulary and language skills, improves concentration, and is a great way to strengthen your relationship. Parents, grandparents, and older siblings can help your child meet this challenge. Books read to them at storytimes and daycare can be included. Books can be repeated too!

How can we possibly read 1000 books before Kindergarten?

One book per night for a year is 365 books. By the age of three, you’ll have read 1095 books to your child.

Keep track of your reading!

There are two easy ways to keep track of your progress: reading log sheets and the 1000 Books App. You can download the PDF form here or pick one up at the Information Desk. Prefer to go paperless? Download the app onto your device. Search for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Get a certificate for every 100 books read!

For every 100 books you read, show us your paper log or progress on the app to receive a certificate!
